Media player specialist Archos is to launch a thin tablet based on Google's Android mobile telephony platform, giving it functionality similar to Apple's iPhone.
But the 10mm-thick Internet Media Tablet, as the company styles the device, will have a larger screen at 5in and up to 500GB of storage.
It is powered by the ARM-based OMAP 3 system-on-a-chip from Texas Instruments.
Archos says the device, which will launch in the second half of this year, will provide a "PC-like internet experience" along with "full-width page viewing... and uncompromised TV recording and high-definition (HD) playback".
Archos is also to launch an Atom-powered 9in mini-tablet with a virtual keyboard and handwriting recognition. The 1.7cm-thick device, which sounds similar to an Origami tablet, will weigh 800g and will feature a hard disk with a capacity of 60GB or 160GB.
