2009 JUL 3 - (VerticalNews.com) -- MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball, announced it will begin streaming full-length live games through its award-winning MLB.com At Bat 2009 application for iPhone(TM) and iPod(R) touch on Thursday, June 18. The unique addition of live baseball games will be a signature offering among the new At Bat 2009 features enabled by the new iPhone(TM) OS 3.0 update.
Beginning with tomorrow's Chicago White Sox-Chicago Cubs Interleague Play matchup from Wrigley Field at 2:20 p.m. (EDT), up to two live games per day, subject to blackout restrictions, will be included in MLB.com At Bat 2009. The other game scheduled for June 18 is the Detroit Tigers-St. Louis Cardinals from Busch Stadium at 8:15 p.m. (EDT). Shortly after the launch of live games, it is expected that MLB.com will roll out the entire slate of out-of-market games currently offered through its premier live streaming video product, MLB.TV Premium, as part of MLB.com At Bat 2009.
Leveraging standards-based http streaming technology, MLB.com will deliver high quality video with adaptive bitrate and DVR functionalities over either a Wi-Fi connection or the carrier network, providing for a truly portable viewing experience. The application also offers live audio broadcasts without blackout restrictions, a continuously updated scoreboard, MLB.com Gameday(TM) functionality, real-time video highlights and Condensed Games, a short-form video recap of the most important hits, pitches and out of every game.
MLB.com At Bat for the 2009 baseball season, including the entire postseason, is available for a one-time fee of $9.99 from Apple's iTunes App Store on iPhone(TM) and iPod(R) touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. It remains the top-selling sports application and also ranks among the top 100 overall paid applications more than two months after becoming available.
